Hybrid Games Liverpool 2027: Format and Training Guide

The Hybrid Games is in Liverpool on 27 February 2027. Full race format, weights, how it compares to HYROX and how to train for it properly.

The Hybrid Games is back in Liverpool on Saturday 27 February 2027. If you're thinking about entering, this covers the format, the weights, how it compares to HYROX and how we'd train for it.

Short version: it's 6km of running broken up by ten stations. Most people who struggle trained the stations and ignored the running.

What is the Hybrid Games?

It's a fitness race. You run 600m, complete a station, and repeat that ten times. Then you sprint 200m to the finish line.

You can enter solo or as a pair, with men's, women's and mixed doubles. The first ever Hybrid Games was held here in Liverpool in June 2025, and it now tours the UK, with Glasgow, Newcastle and Birmingham also on the calendar. Entry for Liverpool starts from £95 on the organiser's site.

The Hybrid Games race format

Every station comes after a 600m run. This is the solo order and the weights.

Doubles follow the same order at the same weights. The one change is the dumbbell snatch, which goes up to 100 reps.

Hybrid Games vs HYROX

If you've trained for HYROX, you're most of the way there. Eight of the ten stations are movements you already know.

Sled push, then a 200m sprint

Wall balls

The difference is rhythm. The runs are shorter, there are more transitions, and you never get long enough to settle into a pace. The sleds also come right at the end, when your legs have the least left.

How to train for the Hybrid Games

1. Run more than you think you need to. 6km on its own is easy. 6km in 600m pieces, with lunges and sleds in your legs, is a different job. Run twice a week at minimum: one easy and steady, one session of 600m repeats at race pace with short rest.

2. Get strong enough that the race weights feel light. Sleds, lunges and carries punish weak legs and weak grip. Squat, lunge, row and carry heavy at least twice a week. If 135kg on a sled is close to your limit in training, it will stop you dead at station ten.

3. Practise running straight off a station. Your first 100m after wall balls or lunges feels nothing like fresh running. Pair a station with a 600m run, repeat it four or five times, and your legs learn to turn over again quickly.

4. Train the two stations people skip. The air bike is station one, and going too hard on it can ruin your first three runs. The 50 snatches are a grip and lower back test, with a farmers carry and a sled pull still to come.

5. Pace the first half. Sled pull, SkiErg and sled push are stations eight, nine and ten. The race is decided there, so arrive with something left.

A training week that works

This is how we'd set it up using the Nutrifit timetable.

Day

Session

What it builds

Monday

Strength (upper)

Pulling strength for the sled pull, row and SkiErg

Tuesday

Conditioning

Stations under fatigue, running off the kit

Wednesday

Strength (lower)

Squats and sleds for the lunges and sled push

Thursday

Easy run, 30 to 40 minutes

The aerobic base everything else sits on

Friday

Rest, or Strength (full body)

Extra strength work if you're recovering well

Saturday

Run Club, 9:30am

5km around the Albert Dock

Sunday

Full Send, or rest

A longer session closer to race length

That's four to six sessions. If you can only manage three, make them lower body strength, conditioning and one run.

Mistakes we see in race prep

  • Only training the stations. They're the fun part, but there's a run before every one of them.

  • Never touching a sled until race day. Sleds feel different on every surface. Get used to heavy pushes and pulls on turf well before February.

  • No plan for the wall balls. 100 reps needs a set strategy you've already tested, such as sets of 20 or 25 with short breaks.

  • Leaving it until January. Eight weeks is enough to sharpen fitness you already have. It isn't enough to build it.

Hybrid Games Liverpool FAQs

When is the Hybrid Games in Liverpool? Saturday 27 February 2027.

How far do you run in the Hybrid Games? 6km in total, split into ten 600m runs, plus a 200m sprint finish.

Is the Hybrid Games harder than HYROX? It's different more than harder. There's 2km less running but two more stations, and the sleds are longer and come last. The training for both is close to identical.

Can beginners do the Hybrid Games? Yes. Doubles is the sensible first entry, and the weights are manageable for anyone who has done a few months of consistent strength work.

How long do you need to train for it? With a decent base, 12 to 16 weeks. From scratch, give yourself the full 20.
